Loaded Hot Dogs

The weather is rainy today so that makes me lazy. My boys were ready for lunch, but I didn’t want to put in too much effort. So, I decided to make these New York Style Beef Franks I picked up at Aldi last week.

I started by frying up some bacon because everyone knows every amazing dish begins with bacon. Once the bacon strips were cooked, I removed them from the skillet along the bacon drippings. Then, I added the franks to the skillet. I did poke holes with a fork in the franks before frying them.

And, let’s talk about that for a minute. Y’all…stop boiling your franks! The texture becomes mushy and the sight and smell of hot dog water makes me nauseous! Frying them is easier, faster and the texture and taste of the franks is so much better. Not to mention that snap! So let’s normalize frying your franks…please!

The brioche hot dog buns from Aldi are the BEST and will take your hot dogs to the next level! I topped the hot dogs with queso. We used our favorite queso I purchase from H-E-B, but if you don’t live in Texas, you can just use your favorite queso. Then, I sprinkled the bacon on top and sprinkled cilantro and onions to finish it off.

These are so good and so easy! Always a hit with the boys!

Fun fact: I first began putting cheese sauce on hot dogs when I worked my first job at the zoo. Most people who know me are very surprised that this was my first job because I am afraid of and/or allergic to most all animals…LOL. Well, I didn’t work with the animals, of course. I worked the concession areas and during the busy summer months, cheese dogs became one of my favorite quick and easy meal while I was working. Making things for my boys always reminds me of those hot summers working at the zoo!
