Bacon-Wrapped Scallops–Aldi
This summer, Aldi came out with some jalapeno bacon-wrapped shrimp and they were awesome! When I saw Aldi was coming out with these bacon-wrapped scallops, I just had to have them! I did not find them on the day they debuted, but I did find them a week later and made sure to grab a couple boxes of these bad boys!
I could not wait to have these as a quick lunch. I must note that these scallops come in a box of six. I am assuming they are meant to be an appetizer because you would definitely need to pair this with something in order to be satisfied.
I love my air fryer and use it daily so that’s how I decided to make these. The package says to cook them in the oven on 400 for 25-30 minutes. I put them in the air fryer to 15 minutes on 400. After the 15 minutes were up, I did cook them an additional 2 minutes because I did want my bacon a little crispier.
I will admit, I should not have added the additional time…it made the scallops slightly overcooked. Still, this was really good! Especially given the fact that is from the frozen aisle!
As these were cooking, I thought of whipping up an Asian-inspired sauce (the same sauce I use for my Next Level Ramen). But, then I remembered I had this Asian Kick wing sauce (also from Aldi) so I figured I could use that instead.
I tried these both with and without the sauce and they are good both ways. I think I do enjoy it with the sauce better. Next time, I plan to baste the scallops with the sauce about 2-3 minutes before they are done so the sauce can caramelize a bit on the scallops.
All in all, I would recommend these. They are $5.99 per box and six scallops come in the box. So, at just under $1 per scallop, I would say this is an okay deal. I could probably make some myself and save a little money, but is it worth the hassle? Not when I can just walk in Aldi and buy these…LOL.
